How to market your coworking space to remote workers

According to data from the New York Times, remote workers now make up 15% of members at coworking spaces – and that number is continuing to rise.

What makes remote workers such an attractive group? Their income can typically support a coworking membership (or membership can be subsidized by their company), making them financially reliable members. Plus, they’re in a good position to benefit from all you have to offer.

So how do you attract this highly sought after group to your coworking space? In this Coworking Quick Tip, we’re sharing five tips to help you market your coworking space to remote workers.

1. Partner with remote companies

One of the best ways to attract more remote workers to your coworking space is to go directly to the organizations themselves. Look for remote-first companies in your area – particularly those who were in-person before the pandemic and may still have a large number of employees in the area – and pitch them on the benefits of coworking.

If these companies are looking to downsize anyways, it could be a win-win situation. They get a far cheaper HQ for their employees to occasionally meet and you get a reliable, high-ticket client.

2. Target local online communities

Adam, Founder of Australia-based coworking space KoWorks, once shared that one of their best marketing channels for their coworking space was local Facebook groups.

Join local Facebook groups that are targeted to the areas around your coworking space and share the benefits of coworking, particularly for those who may be working remotely and looking to get out of the house.

Just be sure to focus on providing value rather than just being promotional. Use it as an opportunity to build relationships while subtly promoting your space when the opportunity arises.

3. Tap into local in-person networks

Now that you’re posting in community groups online, think about where your prospective members are hanging out in-person.

To effectively tap into local networks and attract remote workers to your coworking space, you can:

  • Partner with coffee shops and libraries to distribute collateral to regular laptop goers
  • Reach out to college alumni groups and continuing education programs, as these communities often include recent graduates transitioning to remote work
  • Advertise in apartment complexes with a high concentration of young professionals, using targeted materials or hosting small events to introduce residents to your space

Localized efforts like these help position your coworking space as a convenient and valuable resource within the community.

4. Use remote worker’s pain points directly in your messaging

If someone is working from home full-time, there is a chance they may be feeling lonely or isolated. They also may be struggling to stay focused with the onslaught of life distractions that are always in their way.

Speak to these pain points directly in your marketing materials. Create a landing page just for remote workers on your website that addresses how your coworking space solves these exact problems they’re experiencing.

Let remote workers know that you understand their unique problems and you are here to help them with whatever challenges they are experiencing.

5. Offer unique perks or features that speak to remote workers

Are there any amenities you can offer that speak specifically to the needs of remote workers? Most definitely!

  • Phone booths: remote workers are more likely to be on Zoom calls during the day and therefore, have an increased need for private conversation areas. Ensure easy and affordable access to phone booths for private time as needed
  • Social mixers: remote workers are probably feeling a bit lonely. Offering social mixers as part of your coworking event schedule can be attractive for those looking to connect with others in the community
  • On-site wellness features: maybe remote workers would be more excited to leave their house if they knew there was a spa, gym, and yoga studio waiting for them! Merging your workspace with a gym can be an easy way to be a one-stop shop for remote employees

The best part is that all of the features that speak to remote workers are likely to be valued by other demographics, too. Kill two birds with one stone!

Start attracting remote workers to your coworking space today!

As the demand for coworking spaces grows and flexible work becomes a norm, remote workers are a key demographic to pay attention to.

By partnering with remote companies, connecting with local online and in-person communities, and offering features that meet their needs, you can make your coworking space an appealing option.

These strategies not only help attract remote workers but also strengthen your community and differentiates your space in a competitive market.
